The Night My Beard Was Sheared.

Covert Operations...Life Behind a Beard.
I’ll be the first to admit that my facial hair has become a bit out of control. It’s been 7 months or so since I stopped grooming my face and in those passing months I have learned a lot of interesting things.
First of all there are the obvious complications that come with beard-growing. Food in the whiskers, people not recognizing you, airport security questioning your motives...

11 States in 1 week. That's how I roll.
The craziness of life continues and the discipline of keeping up with this blog has proven itself a worthy adversary. The good news is that I finally have a few moments to write. Over the past 5 days I have been in 9 states. In the past week I have been in over 11 states. Time’s an interesting thing. Some moments painstakingly pass and others occur so quickly they hardly feel real.

Thoughts on Creating...and my latest painting.
I think it started when I was 6 or 7. In fact, it probably began earlier than that. My passion to create began on my grandmother’s piano. I remember hearing the story of Ludwig Van Beethoven’s life in my music class at a young age. The way my music teacher told the story helped illustrate his passion for creating music. I specifically remember her telling us about how when...

Heart and Desire Overpowers Body.
Heart and desire overpowers body. As I was running this morning I was thinking about the power that comes from a positive attitude and a vision. Honestly i’ve been struggling with how high I should set my goals. How far should I push the envelope of what I feel like my abilities are? I’ve been debating on whether or not to train to qualify to run in the Boston Marathon. The...

The Rules
I learned a lesson yesterday and wasn’t expecting it. That’s usually how it happens anyway. So we had the priviledge of filling in as leaders for campers recreation time. We had a blast and we also had no clue what we were doing. My lesson was really learned after the games were finished and we were debriefing. One of the questions that came up was about following the rules. The thing...

Paintings.
These have been in the works for a while. Painting is a great outlet and I find a lot of peace comes out of the process of creating.

Cereal...for real.
In the past 6 months I have taken on a new hobby. I’m officially a connoisseur of cereal. While I love all kinds of cereal…healthy cereal has saved me a lot of grief. So this is my official tribute to my favorite cereals.

At Camp!
So this is my first time updating from my phone. The band is getting ready to lead worship for 6 weeks. Camp is a great place because we get more time to actually get to know the people we meet. More coming soon! written from somewhere on the road in a big white van via a blackberry-

Mario 3 and Life
Wow! It’s crazy how life can keep you so busy that you nearly forget to breathe. This past week has been one of those times for me. In the midst of a crazy travel weekend with the band last weekend and finishing moving out / in to our new residence - it seems like there has been any time to think. Which is why my entries have been sparse this week.
The good news is that I find myself...

Airports and Patience...
No lies, I am pretty irritable. There are a ton of things that drive me crazy! This weekend I discovered a haven for all of my peeves…the airport. First, let me explain the things I like about airports. I love the diversity of people, I love the newspaper/snack shops even though their prices are criminal, I like free wi-fi, and that’s just about it.
I am currently sitting in...

On the move!
9:44pm and all is well. The past 3 days have been ridiculous! Carie and I had to find a place to live because the lease on the place we were renting was up and we wanted to get out of that house. The unfortunate part of it is that I have been gone so much that we didn’t have ample time to go hunting for a place. So after a week of browsing craigslist and driving around town we finally...

I Have a Unibrow...so what?
That’s right. For those of you wondering what a unibrow is here is wikipedia’s definition.
A unibrow (or monobrow) is a “confluence of eyebrows”; i.e., the presence of abundant hair between the eyebrows, so that they seem to converge to form one long eyebrow.
My unibrow is pretty sparse but it’s there nonetheless. The older I get the more I realize that a...

A Humbling Trip and Fall. AKA I did a...
Laces tied, legs stretched, and ready to run… That is how my mornings look and this morning was no different. Today I felt like making a longer run so instead of making a left turn from our street I made a right turn which leads out to a busy morning traffic road. I’m always hesitant to run near busy roads but if I wanted to have a long run this was my only option. As car by car...

I Took a Nap?!?!?
It happened… It finally happened! I took nap. Let me start off by saying that this has been a great Monday. I got to drive Carie to work (this doesn’t happen when the band is on the road obviously) and I got to pick her up from work. I also took her car in to the shop and spent a couple hours updating this week’s New Video Monday
Luckily having some work to do made the...

First time in Milwaukee...
3:30am has become a familiar wake up time for me the past couple days. Friday we had an 8 hour drive to NC and on Saturday we had a 2 hour drive to the Charlotte airport to fly to Milwaukee.
Even though there hasn’t been much sleep this weekend has been a blast. Yesterday we spent the day working with FCA for a Brewers/Phillies game. We got to meet a bunch of awesome people and a bunch...

Being home the past few days has been refreshing! Tonight I’m getting ready to watch pretty much the only television show I watch LOST but I happened to tune in to “The Biggest Loser” which I always find inspiring. Some of the issues that contestants of the show are dealing with are things that I have noticed first hand about being unhealthy.

Mother's Day and Turkey Burgers.
It’s Mother’s Day and I am not on the road. Those are two sentiments that bring a smile to my face!
Thoughts on Mother’s Day…
To take you back for a moment, I was was the kid who didn’t learn to do laundry until his freshman year of college. And I was indeed the kid who had a clean room up until his freshman year of college. I was also the kid who got my mouth...
Mississippi soil and my first time stepping on it.
I have finally done it. I am on Mississippi soil. Over the years MS has mostly been a “pass-thru” state. The only time I have ever stopped in MS was to get gas in Biloxi while driving from Florida to Texas. Today the band traveled to Brandon, MS. The sun was out and air was humid, and we got some good Mexican food. After a long quality day, I give MS my stamp of approval....
You've Got Mail...a Run Through Central Park
I can’t help myself. I am an early riser. It doesn’t matter how late I go to bed (which is never extremely late) I am always up between 5-6am. I suppose I am happy that I am wide awake at this time and ready for the day. I’m currently sitting in a stylish green chair at the Hotel Beacon in NYC. I have strained my mind all morning trying to figure out exactly what this hotel...
Late night from the Big Apple.
Currently getting ready to turn out the hotel room light and go to bed but wanted to write a quick note first. I’m pretty stoked because in the morning I am waking up and running in Central Park! This will be my second time running through Central Park. The first time I ran in the pouring down rain.
The past couple days have been filled with travel. First we flew to NC then to NYC and...
The Starting Point.
Here it is, the starting point. This corner represents a lot more than you might think. I can remember this point because it’s where I click the start button on my stopwatch. Over this past year (when i’ve been off tour) I have literally come to this starting point every single day. If i’m going to journal the places I am running then I wanted to be sure to note the starting...
A Running Journal...pun intended.
This past year has been truly unreal. I can honestly say that one year ago I was not the same man. It’s a really liberating to be able to say that! I’ve been sorting my thoughts out for a while now as to how I might be able to share some insight on life as well as keep a scrapbook of the places I run, the people I meet, and the experiences I partake in on this journey. Thanks for...
